Post-Publication Discussion Policy
The Journal of Education, Teaching and Learning (JETL) encourages constructive scholarly dialogue and critical engagement with research published in the journal. The Post-Publication Discussion Policy provides a mechanism for readers, researchers, and other members of the academic community to discuss published articles, clarify research findings, raise methodological questions, and contribute further insights to the advancement of educational research.
1. Scope and Purpose
Post-publication discussions may address the theoretical contributions, research methodologies, data interpretation, findings, conclusions, and practical implications of articles published in JETL. The purpose of this policy is to promote academic exchange, research transparency, scientific accuracy, and the continuous improvement of scholarly knowledge.
2. Eligibility and Submission
Researchers, academics, practitioners, and other interested readers may submit comments or scholarly discussions concerning articles published in JETL.
Submissions must:
-
Clearly identify the published article being discussed, including its title, authors, publication year, and DOI or article URL, where available.
-
Present a clear, relevant, and evidence-based academic argument.
-
Provide appropriate references to support claims and interpretations.
-
Maintain a professional, respectful, and constructive tone.
-
Disclose any relevant conflicts of interest.
-
Comply with applicable research ethics, publication ethics, and copyright requirements.
Submissions that contain personal attacks, defamatory statements, unsupported allegations, or material unrelated to the original article will not be considered for publication.
3. Editorial Assessment
All submissions are subject to an initial assessment by the JETL editorial team. The editor evaluates the relevance, scholarly merit, originality, clarity, ethical compliance, and potential contribution of the submission.
Depending on the nature of the discussion, the editor may:
-
Accept the submission for publication.
-
Request revisions or clarification.
-
Seek an independent expert assessment.
-
Invite a response from the original article's authors.
-
Reject the submission if it does not meet the journal's requirements.
The editorial assessment will be conducted independently and fairly. Acceptance of a discussion or response is not guaranteed.
4. Right of Reply
When a post-publication discussion raises substantive questions or critiques concerning a published article, the original authors may be invited to provide a response.
Authors are encouraged to address the issues raised directly, clarify relevant aspects of their research, and provide additional evidence or references where appropriate. Responses are subject to editorial assessment and must comply with the same standards of academic integrity and professional conduct.
Where appropriate, the discussion and the authors' response may be published together or linked to the original article to provide readers with a balanced scholarly record.
5. Publication and Accessibility
Accepted post-publication discussions and author responses may be published on the JETL website in accordance with the journal's editorial procedures.
Where technically and editorially feasible, the published discussion will be linked to the original article to facilitate discoverability, transparency, and continued scholarly engagement.
Publication details, citation information, and applicable licensing terms will follow JETL's established publication policies.
6. Research Integrity, Allegations of Research Misconduct, and Ethical Considerations
JETL is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. Post-publication discussions must be based on verifiable evidence and must not be used to make unsupported allegations or engage in personal disputes.
Any allegation of research misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, or other potential breaches of research integrity, will be handled seriously, objectively, and confidentially, as appropriate.
The editorial team will assess the information and evidence available and may request clarification from the authors or consult relevant institutions, experts, or other appropriate parties when necessary. All parties involved will be treated fairly, and no allegation will be considered proven before an appropriate assessment has been completed.
Where a credible concern is identified, JETL will take appropriate action in accordance with its publication ethics policies and recognized publication-ethics guidance. Depending on the findings, such action may include requesting clarification, publishing a correction, issuing an expression of concern, or retracting an article when justified.
All cases will be handled in a manner that respects due process, confidentiality where appropriate, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
7. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions
If a post-publication discussion identifies a credible concern regarding the accuracy, reliability, or integrity of a published article, the editorial team will investigate the matter in accordance with the journal's policies and recognized publication-ethics guidance.
Depending on the findings, appropriate action may include:
-
Publication of a correction or corrigendum.
-
Publication of an editorial note or expression of concern.
-
Retraction of the article when justified by the evidence and applicable ethical standards.
Any such action will be documented transparently, and the original publication record will be maintained in accordance with the journal's procedures.
8. Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest
JETL will handle submissions and related communications responsibly and will protect confidential information where appropriate. Participants must disclose relevant financial, professional, personal, or other interests that could influence their contributions.
Editorial decisions will be based on scholarly merit, relevance, evidence, and ethical considerations rather than personal relationships or institutional affiliations.
9. Editorial Decision
The editor-in-chief or a designated editor retains final responsibility for decisions concerning the assessment and publication of post-publication discussions and responses.
All decisions will be made in accordance with JETL's editorial policies, publication ethics standards, and commitment to fair and responsible scholarly communication.
10. Policy Review
JETL may review and update this policy periodically to reflect developments in scholarly publishing, research integrity, and publication ethics. Any revisions will be made available through the journal's official website.
